this is the fox25 morning news. >>daniel: 4:00 on this wednesday, october. i am daniel miller. look who is back julie i am back from a warm vacation. chillier temperatures here, but very happy to it be back. shiri spear here to update us on the cooler temperatures and things will warm up. >>shiri: i have gone >>shiri: i was going to say, julie, you couldn't bring the warm air back. chill he out the door. 40s and lower 50s. 52 boston. 44 in beverly. 43 in plymouth. 45 in nashua. 48 in worcester. this is just slight yesterday where it will be kind of slow to warm up at first. we have 7 a.m. temperatures sitting where they are right now. perhaps even a degree or two cooler than where we are right now. we have a little bit of cloud cover. mostly sunny skies for a good chunk of the day. you will see scattered passing clouds as we go. noontime temperatures will be in the middle 60s. and then this afternoon, we get

a couple of pops of 70. all the while nice and dry. partly to mostly sunny skies. after this chilling morning, warm-up takes us to 68 to 72 for highs. we will take you through the hot spots coming up. julie with the roads. >>julie: things are nice at 4 >>julie: things are nice at 4:01. overall traffic is light because most of us are still sleeping. route 93 moving along fine from the cloverleaf to woburn and medford. pike good through the weston tolls into boston. brighton, nothing is slowing down. 13 minutes from the weston tolls to the ted williams. 8 minutes on route 9 from 495 to speen street. 24 minutes on 128 from route 1 in peabody to the weston tolls. new this morning, a state police cruiser is hit right outside the boston barrier on columbia road. happened around 2:30. the police car and another sustained minor damage and all injuries and to be minor at this time. no word if any criminal charges will be filed.

school teacher takes center stage in court this morning. today jury selection for the former student accused of this horrific crime. two years ago this month that colleen ritzer was found stabbed 16 times and raped behind danvers high school. 14-year-old quill lip chism violently attacked ritzer after cool and went out to eat and saw a movie. the main issue in this trial will be whether or not chism could comprehend right from wrong or control his actions at the time murder. defense attorneys are expected to call a high-profile psychiatrist to defend their client. a pool of 150 jurors are being called today and friday and the selection process is expected to take about a week. the trial expected to last six and a half weeks. >> the coast guard has been searching through the night for any sign of that missing cargo ship that has three massachusetts natives on board. now the wife of one of those sailors tells fox25 that officials do not believe they

meanwhile. ntsb regulatory remembers planning to be on scene for about a week. they will look at the condition of the ship before it left florida by digging into inspection reports and records. the team will determine why el faro's engines failed and what factor the weather brought in bringing down the ship. they are focused to find the recorder to find out what happened. >> interviewing people. it involves a lot of paperwork looking at the marine logs that are available. it involves looking at every aspect of the engineering of the ship >> the owner of el faro said work was being done on engine room during the voyage but does not reveal why it added to the ship's power loss >> the ship had two equipment failures over the past five years and in both cases the ship was repaired. the 40-year-old ship was too old and, quote, should have

>> when you have an older ship like that and you put it under extreme stress like a storm like this, you are substantial like this, you are substantially increasing the risk there will be a major casualty. >> el faro was scheduled it have its next round of coast guard inspections in february. >> the community of kingston will gather to support the family of one of the soldiers missing on el faro. a vigil for jeffrey mathias. he was married in the church and a father of three. he was working on the ship as a consultant. his family owns the bog harbor farm in kingston. they have a message that they will be closed for the regs of the calendar year due to family circumstance beyond their control. they released a statement, jeffrey is our beloved son, brother, loving husband and father. he is the center of our world. all of his friends, family, nieces, nephews and three children age 3, 5 and 7. wife, brother an parents ask for your conditioned prayers and continued respect for our

privacy for this difficult time privacy for this difficult time. in winthrop friends gather in honor of another el faro member. keith griffin grew up in winthrop and dozens showed up to light a candle in front hi chide hoold. keith's wife lives in florida and is pregnant with twins. >> i love keith. my heart is pouring for his wife and his two kids. >>daniel: keith's wife, katie, tells fox25 she can't put into words how much the vigil meant to her. she doesn't want her husband to be forgotten and the turnout at the vigil show how man people really care about her husband. hope and tears in maine where four members of the el faro school went to school. the vigil at the maritime academy. hundreds of student and staff came together in honor of the four alumni. it was not a memorial but to hold on to the hope that everyone on board will return home. keep it here to fox25 for continuing coverage of the

he kicked the 16-year-old dog in the chest on saturday. police charged him after the dog died. tausley was working at the rental property when the dog went to the bathroom in his yard. tausley had other options beside kicking a pet. >> why kick an old dog like that. he knew it was my dog. why couldn't he come over and say, hey, bill, your dog is in my yard. >> the dog was menace >> the dog was menacing him he said. he did not apologize and said the dog's owner should have kept the dog on his own property. prosecutors in new york are investigate investigating a boston-based fantasy sports company. the "wall street journal" says the new york attorney general's office is demanding internal data from draft king and its rival fan duel. they operate fantasy sports league. they ask for specific information of employee ethan haskel. last week he admitted leaking

streets next summer. the t plans to purchase 44 new vehicles for the silver line and two other bus routes. the new buses will be the same size as the current, but will be diesel hybrid vehicles. the current buses run on compressed natural gas. they have been in service since 2003. the defense team for convicted killer aaron hernandez wants a witness intimidation charge against him dismissed. the former patriot and in court charged with killing two two men in boston's south end in 2012. he is accused of shooting former associate alexander bradley in the face. bradley started talking about murders and that's why he was shot. >> if hernandez shot brad lead that we don't concede that he did so in any way, shame or form not to intimidate him as a witness. this is their theory but this is basically a concocted fantasy. >> hernandez is currently serving a life sentence for the

murder of odin lloyd. another hearing for pretrial motions in the double murder case will happen next week. the governor of vermont says everyone who was injured in that amtrak train derailment is out of the hospital. the ntsb continues to investigate monday's accident which amtrak says was caused by falling rocks. amtrak has heavy duty netting in place to.block these rock slides on track but only in the new york area. the agency says tracks should be working again within a week. and the water main break in boston's north end is fixed, but crews are working to pave that road. this is new video shot this morning. the break happened yesterday at the intersection of prince and salem streets and sent water rushing everywhere. we showed that to you yesterday morning. self-nearby businesses were closed. officials told fox25 the hole in the road should have been filled in morning. we will update you on that situation as it goes all morning. you can call it a mac and cheese meltdown.

much cooler again into tomorrow's forecast. we are going to see high temperatures really struggling to climb and showers back in the forecast here. friday not a bad thing. we have a little bit of a rainfall dusting this month. we will take it where we can get it. satellite and radar predicting early morning cloud cover. a lot of these will be high thin clouds and filtered sunshine through them. nonetheless we have partly cloudy skies to start off our day. 5 52 right now in boston with clouds in place. 8-mile-per-hour winds really are not going to be a big issue today. temps hovering in the lower 50s through 8 a.m., then we start to warm up. you can see 65 by lunchtime today and we hang out in the upper 60s there. versus somewhere like nashua at 45 degrees. even at risk for going down by a couple more degrees this morning where we have mostly clear skies and the warm-up will be a little bit big they are afternoon. by lunchtime, middle 60s as well and temperatures start to

shoot upwards after 8, 9:00. i expect nashua to get closer to 70 degrees and plymouth to 4 to 70 degrees and plymouth to 43 degrees. all or not. go on to the next graphic. will be contained in the upper 60s because closer to the coast and the coast sends us a touch cooler. do have a few of those clouds that continue to move toward us today. futurecast a front that moves in. going to stir up a couple of scattered clouds throughout the day. your 5 p.m. drive home from work, nice and safe and nice and quiet. that front comes through dry overnight tonight and does pull into cooler air, and will start off with temperatures still in the 40s tomorrow, but highs. not going to be up around 70 degrees tomorrow, and temperatures will be in the lower 60s in the afternoon versus 69 today in boston. upper 60s in rockport. lower 70s hudson, lawrence, down to framingham. 67 in worcester. and we have temperatures that are also in the upper 60s down across the south shore.

4:24 right now. the flooding continues to get worse in parts of south carolina this morning as more dams have given way. devastating storms claimed the lives of at least 17 people in north and south carolina. at least 11 dams have failed which could lead to a new round of flooding in other parts of the state. the failing dams are create the failing dams are creating a domino effect as one topples, the water rushes down river add the water rushes down river adding additional strain on already overwhelmed dams. >> just because there is no rain and just because the sun is out, we are now looking at downstreams, waters and other areas that are going to be affected.

>>daniel: officials in south carolina warn it could be weeks before crews could repair and clear all of the roads in affected areas and to lift mandatory evacuations. it is 4 :24. and we have scary new details in the fight against isis. associated press has uncovered at least four attempts by smugglers to sell isis nuclear waste. the materials could be used to make a dirty bomb. the fbi partnered with investigators in the small country of moldovia to bring down muglers. a smuggler was caught trying to sell enough waste to contaminate several city blocks contaminate several city blocks. thousands of federal inmates will soon be out of prison and back on the streets thanks to a change in drug laws thanks to a change in drug laws. the federal government will release about 6,000 inmates between october 30 and november 2. all of the affected inmates are drug offenders and now eligible for release.the inmates went through an appeals process to win their release. the largest one-time release of federal prisoners.

a medway man now held without bail after police uncovered guns and explosives in his home. we first brought you this story last month. alexander laprance is facing 50 charges ranging from assault to possession of a large-capacity firearm. police headed to his home in september for welfare check of a family member. police say he fought with police, and days later family members called police warning there was a stash of weapons in the attic. a prom of miss of change after a local mother was not able to find a place to pump while traveling. united will add nursing station united will add nursing stations to all airports that don't currently have one after newton mother liz cooper couldn't find a private place to pump her breast milk at the dulles airport. her story went viral an she posted a picture of a pet relief center offered up by the united airlines site. liz is the wife of a fox25 employee. love on the rocks or at
